EXECUTIVE NEWS

Thank You Evatt Community

A big thank you to our wonderful Evatt Primary School community for your ongoing support during these complex times. Our staff are continuing to do an outstanding job of providing high level learning experiences for the students across the school while balancing covid related absences.

A reminder that Rapid Antigen Tests will continue to come home in school bags each Friday. The ACT government announced this week that these will continue to be sent home at least until the end of week 8.

Thank you to parents and carers who are being diligent by not sending children to school if they are feeling unwell or showing covid like symptoms. As always, if you have any questions please ring through to our front office or you can visit the ACT Education Directorates website for updated information. https://www.education.act.gov.au/public-school-life/covid-school-arrangements/school-advice

Thank You Community Partners

The Evatt Primary team would like to share a big shout out to Woolworths Charnwood and the Evatt IGA. They generously support our school each week with groceries and resources to support our students, cooking programs and when back to normal they will be able to support “The Nest’ and our community events. A shout out to Rubys and Herberts at the Evatt Shops who also support the school at various times throughout the year.

Schoolwide Repairs and Maintenance

A number of learning spaces throughout the school will be given a facelift over the next few months. Mostly this will be new carpet and fresh paint. This will be very much welcomed throughout the school by our staff and students. There may be small amounts of time that students will be required to learn in other spaces while these works are completed however we will work to avoid any lengthy disruptions to regular learning spaces. A big thank you to our wonderful team of staff for their flexibility while this occurs.

Problem Solving Steps @ Evatt

This year as part of our Every Day @ Evatt framework, we have introduced a consistent approach to problem-solving. This aims to build an educational process in which students are supported to recognise mistakes, be accountable for their actions, and learn for next time - “When you know better, you do better”.

The process revolves around three main steps:

  1. Recognise: Recognising is about identifying there is a problem and what it is.

  2. Repair: Once a problem has been recognised, we can now work towards repairing it. This will look different depending on the problem

  3. Refresh: Once a problem has been repaired, it is important that students have the opportunity to refresh. This means moving on with a plan to avoid the problem happening again.

Students will be learning about this process of problem solving in their classes as we continue to embed it throughout the year.

Student Learning Resources (previously known as bookpacks)

A big thank you to the parents and carers who have paid for this year's student learning resources. A reminder below if you have not had the chance to pay yet. We have sourced all of the stationary, supplies and resources required to support your child's learning for 2022. With a goal of keeping costs to a minimum + saving parents and carers time sourcing themselves, we have purchased the supplies in bulk and will provide them to the students as required throughout the year. We have ensured the purchase of high quality resources. Some of these supplies include: workbooks, pencils, pens, textas, glue sticks, scissors, rubbers, sharpeners, rulers, scissors, tissues, handwriting books (selected year levels) + a large number of specific resources required for Art, Science, Technology, Mathematics, Sustainability and Literacy.

We encourage all parents/carers to pay for the learning resource requirements for their child(ren). An amount of $70 per student will cover these costs for the year.

Please see the payment information further down in this newsletter.

Voluntary Contributions

All ACT Government Schools ask families for the payment of voluntary contributions. These funds are extremely valuable for ensuring that the school can provide an enhanced learning experience for all students. We will continue to prioritise our voluntary contributions to a new PA system for our school hall. If families would like to pay $50, an amount of their choice this is great. Families may wish to pay an amount each term for the year.

Previously the contribution was $120 for one child, $220 for two children or $290 for three or more children.

If you nominate your voluntary contribution to the library fund this amount is tax deductible.

Please see the payment information further down in this newsletter.
