EXECUTIVE NEWS

WELCOME BACK!

A huge welcome back to our Evatt community for 2022. We have had a great start to the year and are looking forward to the term and year ahead that will be filled with fantastic learning opportunities for our students. Our teaching team have worked hard with their preparation and planning to ensure the learning needs of all our students are met.

A big reminder to ensure you have our Seesaw app as this is our main platform for communication as well as seeing the learning progress of your child and children. You can also follow our good news stories on Facebook and Twitter.

We are really excited about the year ahead and please remember to provide us feedback along the way so we can do the very best we can for our wonderful school community.

Rapid Antigen Tests

Today the Education Directorate has made the decision to send Rapid Antigen tests home with students from next week. These will be the 2 x RATs per student for week 3. We will be sharing more information via Seesaw re this next week. We will work through with families if they have concerns with their children bringing these home in school bags.

Carnivals and Excursions

Carnivals, school camps and excursions will not be going ahead for term 1 due to the current COVID restrictions. We will do our very best later in the year to accommodate these experiences that we know our students and families really value.

We can share with families that we have been able to reschedule our year 3/4 and year 5/6 camps to later in the year.

  • Year 3/4 camp to Birrigai will now be Term 2, Week 5 Thursday/Friday 26/27 May

  • Year 5/6 camp to Cooba will now be Term 4, Week 4 Wednesday - Friday 02 - 04 November

Student Learning Resources (previously known as bookpacks)

During the school holidays we have sourced all of the stationary, supplies and resources required to support your child's learning for 2022. With a goal of keeping costs to a minimum + saving parents and carers time sourcing themselves, we have purchased the supplies in bulk and will provide to the students as required throughout the year. We have ensured the purchase of high quality resources. Some of these supplies include: workbooks, pencils, pens, textas, glue sticks, scissors, rubbers, sharpeners, rulers, scissors, tissues, handwriting books (selected year levels) + a large amount of specific resources required for Art, Science, Technology, Mathematics, Sustainability and Literacy.

We encourage all parents/carers to pay for the learning resource requirements for their child(ren). An amount of $70 per student will cover these costs for the year.

Please see the payment information further down in this newsletter.

Voluntary Contributions

All ACT Government Schools ask families for the payment of voluntary contributions. These funds are extremely valuable for ensuring that the school can provide an enhanced learning experience for all students. We will continue to prioritise our voluntary contributions to a new PA system for our school hall. We believe the hall is a space that brings our school community together for a range of assemblies and events and we are working to make the setup of this space the very best it can be.

As we did last year in consultation with our School Board, we are not going to put an expected dollar amount on the voluntary contributions. If families would like to pay $50, an amount of their choice or even $1000 this is great. Families may wish to pay an amount each term for the year.

Previously the contribution was $120 for one child, $220 for two children or $290 for three or more children.

If you nominate your voluntary contribution to the library fund this amount is tax deductible.

Please see the payment information further down in this newsletter.

Important Reminders

Below are some important reminders that will assist with the running of our school this year.

  • Allergy friendly school: please ensure your child brings no nuts or nut products to school

  • Label clothes and belongings: please label all jumpers, jackets, hats, drink bottles and food containers

  • Fixed play equipment: the playground equipment is only to be used by children when they are under the supervision of teachers or adults

  • Car park: the safety of our students is our top priority. Specific information is shared below.

Parking Information

I wanted to draw your attention to the traffic arrangements for dropping and collecting your children. The Kiss and Collect/Drop Zone is on Heydon Crescent, located along the front of the school, between the carpark exit and bottom end of the fence line.

Please read the following important points:

  • Please be mindful not to turn right out of the school car park during the school hours of 8.30 - 9.30am and 2.30 - 3.30pm.

  • Please be mindful that cars allowed in the car park are those that have a disabled sticker, staff, or those cars belonging to volunteers working in the school.

  • If you need to come into the school, there is 15-minute parking outside the preschool, on Heydon Crescent.

  • No parking in front of the emergency access gate (see photo) – fines may apply.

These requirements are to reduce the likelihood of a serious incident at the start and end of the day.
