Absences

Class rolls are kept in accordance with the ACT Department of Education Policy. A written explanation is required whenever a student has been absent. This may be done by email, to info@evattps.act.edu.au.

If a student is going to be late to school or absent it would be appreciated if a phone call could be made to the school office on 6142 1640.

Parents/carers must sign a book at the office when taking students in or out of the school in school hours. If students are late to school they must be signed in at the office by their parents.

After School Care

Out of School Hours Care (OSHC)

Woden Community Service (WCS) welcomes Evatt School and surrounding community to our Evatt Preschool and OSHC service commencing term 3 2019.

Our programs are recreationally based and regulated under the National Quality Framework (NQF). WCS provides an inclusive environment that recognises variation in children’s ability, backgrounds, family structure and culture. We aim to provide experiences that value and respect all similarities and differences. Children with additional support needs are encouraged to participate in all our program and activities.

The programs are designed to stimulate and encourage social development, are fun, and are conducted in safe and secure environments. The activities provided are centred on the children’s interests and include art and craft, sports, games, dramatic play, construction, cooking and excursions. We work within the National Quality Framework and the principles outlined in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and My Time, Our Place (MTOP) documents.

Evatt Preschool and OSHC runs Before School Care, After School Care, Preschool and School Holiday Programs.

All enrolments and bookings are managed using QK Enrol (My Family Lounge), an online booking management system.

Bookings for the Holiday Program can be made from week 7 each term. Information about each upcoming School Holiday Program will be posted on our website.

Allergy Friendly School

Evatt School is an allergy friendly school, as some of our students have severe allergies to certain items, specifically nuts. Please do not send food items such as nuts, peanut butter, snacks containing peanuts or items cooked in peanut oil.

If you have any concerns or questions about this policy please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Appointments

Communication between school and home is highly valued. Parents are asked to make an appointment for any discussion with the Principal, Deputy Principal, School Psychologist or teachers.

An appointment will be arranged at the earliest possible time and attention will be given immediately to urgent issues.

Arrival at School

Please ensure students arrive at school in time to begin lessons at 9:00am.

After the bell rings, students line up in their class group at the designated area to meet the teacher.

Please note for safety reasons, students are not allowed to play on the equipment or play ball games before school begins.

Assembly

Whole school assemblies are held every fortnight in even weeks at 2.15pm. These assemblies feature a variety of performances such as singing, choir songs, instrumental band performances, drama, reports from students, and displays of work, awards and general announcements.

Each class is rostered throughout the term to present items. These dates are set at the beginning of term and available on the term calendar.

We warmly welcome parents, grandparents, and carers at all of our assemblies. Parents of students who receive special awards are contacted prior to assembly to enable attendance at the assembly.

Assessment and Reporting

Teachers use the Australian Curriculum content and achievement standards first to identify current levels of learning and achievement and then to select the most appropriate content (possibly from across several year levels) to teach individual students and/or groups of students. This takes into account that in each class there may be students with a range of prior achievement (below, at and above the year level expectations) and that teachers plan to build on current learning.

Teachers also use the achievement standards, at the end of a period of teaching, to make on-balance judgements about the quality of learning demonstrated by the students - that is, whether they have achieved below, at or above the standard. To make these judgements, teachers draw on assessment data that they have collected as evidence during the course of the teaching period. These judgements about the quality of learning are one source of feedback to students and their parents and inform formal reporting processes.

Students in Kindergarten participate in PIPS testing during Term 1 and Term 4. Students in Year 3 and 5 participate in the NAPLAN testing.

Informal Reporting

This is encouraged between teacher and parent whenever it is considered necessary by parent or teacher. Parents are very welcome to see their child's teacher at any time. Please make an appointment by phoning the office.

Formal Reporting

  • Term 1 -Parent/Teacher interviews as requested as a "getting to know you" session and a short written report on progress to date
  • Term 2 - A-E and Written Reports with interviews as requested
  • Term 3 - Learning Journeys at school
  • Term 4 - A-E and Written Reports with interviews as requested.
