Facilities
BUILDING
The architectural design of the School combines single classrooms and flexible teaching units. The design of the School provides areas which adapt easily and quickly to the individual differences and educational needs of the children, providing facilities for individualised learning, small group learning, large group activities and recreational needs. There are two large teaching/learning areas, ten single classrooms, a computer lab, a library resource centre, a Special Education room, a Learning Advancement room, a general-purpose hall with adjacent storerooms for gymnasium gear, a sick room and a staffroom. Each unit has its own office space for teachers and a “wet area” for activities such as painting and craft. There are also offices for the Principal, Deputy Principal, Counsellor, and a newly furbished Front Office area. Building Layout
Some School facilities, especially the Assembly Hall, may be hired by community groups outside of school hours. Any organisation wishing to do so should contact the Office Manager.
LIBRARY SERVICES
Students are encouraged to use the Library and its resources both for reading enjoyment and for personal research and are taught how to use its facilities effectively.
As well as fiction and non-fiction books, the Library contains a range of non-book materials (eg reading and number games), audio-visual materials (eg cassettes and videotapes) which make it an invaluable source of information for both students and staff.
Each class has at least one class time session each week and children may use the Library during other times by arrangement. The Library is open to children at lunchtime from 1.25pm to 1.45pm.
THE ASSEMBLY HALL
The Assembly Hall is used for many activities such as musicals, drama, dancing, gymnastics, trampolining, and indoor sports, as well as for School assemblies.
HOME SCIENCE UNIT
Our school has a fully equipped Home Science Room. Here students can be taught the basic skills of food preparation and presentation together with safety and nutrition. This room also doubles as a Parents’ Room, where parents may drop in for a cup of tea or coffee or to hold informal meetings.
INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
The School has a special focus on Information & Communication Technology. The computer lab was upgraded and mini-labs have been established for 5/6 classes. The centre is accessible to all children from pre-school to Year 6 and is often available at lunchtimes. All classrooms have additional computers with access to the Internet.
OUTSIDE FACILITIES
The School boasts extensive grassed and treed areas including a large oval marked for a range of summer and winter sports. Fixed equipment provides for enjoyment during play periods. The playground has a “maths playground area” with various counting, target and other number-based games on the bitumen. The P&C Association has provided modern playground equipment in two areas, and also two large sunshelters where children can eat, sit or play safely out of the sun.
